Notes from Longhair Jim
aka Danny Boyd

As remembered from 1990.

The following is the version of the history of THSS and Gunsmoke as remembered in a letter about 2003 with some editing from Danny “Longhaired Jim” Boyd to Robin “Star” Clark.

Original Letter from Danny Boyd to Robin Clark:

THSS to the best of my recollection was founded about March or April 1990,by Mr. D Thomas Thompson, AKA Billy Dixon, and Mr. Nick Nixon. Do not remember Nicks alias and there were a couple others I do not remember, been too long!

Carters Guns donated some money to build Carters Gun Emporium at Gunsmoke.

Sterling Bank donated money for the Sterling bank. Do not know if this bank is still around

The story about the Curl hotel is Jim Curl was one of our old members who shot with us at the hill, before Gunsmoke. The town of Gunsmoke was his idea and he promoted it and talked it up a lot with Caesar Silva who was a very close friend and who was ultimately the designer and backer of the Curl Hotel, as we know it today.

Finn Aagaard was an enthusiastic shooter and hunter. He was an author and a writer for American Rifleman magazine. His alias was the Seldom Seen Kid. I remember him as a quiet but very interesting man dedicated to his family and his sport. If I think of any thing else I will let you know.

From this letter we gather the following info: THSS was founded
in About March or April 1990
by D. Thomas, AKA Billy Dixon
Nick Nixon AKA
Two other men (name not remembered)

Carters Gun donated the moneys to build the Carter Gun Emporium

Sterling Bank donated the money for the Sterling Bank.

Jim Curl one of the older members who shot with us at the hill came up with the idea of Gunsmoke. He and close friend and shooter Caesar Silva discussed the idea. After Curls death Silva designed the Curl Hotel while Curls widow backed it.

Notes from others:

After Finn Aagaards death his widow donated his guns to be sold to raise money to build Fort Finn in his memory.

The Mine stage was renamed Three Finger Mine after one, of our very active members, that was killed in a car accident the day after a shoot on his way to work.

Entered 2006
