For Timeline from
Nick Nixon
aka
Capt'n Jack Coffee Hays

1990- Nick Nixon, Mike Harvey of Cimarron Arms, Ron Blaske collector of fire arms decided to get it together, to promote Cowboy Action Shooting.  Not knowing a thing about how a shoot was handled, Nick took a trip to California to see and participate in SASS Annual shoot.  He joined SASS and became “Capt’n Jack Coffee Hays” # 893.  The plane Tickets and car rental cost $1000.  In the first stage my pistols did not work.  Targets for Rifle were 40 yards away and very small, pistol targets were 15 yards away and small.  We were not allowed to carry our loaded pistols in our holsters. We had to load and lay them in front of the target.

First Official THSS Officers 1990-1991

Marshal (President) - D Thomas Thompson aka Billy Dixon
Sheriff  (Vice President) - Nick Nixon aka Cap’n Jack Hays
Historian (Secretary) - Ms. George Adams aka Diamond Lil
Banker (Treasurer) - Yvonne Walters aka Sophia Porter

1991 – The group put fliers at Collector’s firearms where Ron Blaske, than, worked selling lots of guns and recruited lots of new members.  We started the shoots with 10-second penalties for a miss.  Later this was changed.

THSS starts – We contacted Herman Brune near Columbus, Texas.  We struck up a deal with him to use his property.  We would collect $10 a shooter and Herman would get $5 of this.  We started first in front of his house on the place they call “The Hill” now, cause, they still shoot Long Range, there.  In 2 to 3 years later we moved to the present locations.  We gradually started building the stages and the buildings as you see them now.  More about this later.

We had Monthly Non-shooting meetings at I-10 at Fry Rd on the LH7 Ranch owned by Maudeen Marks.

Most shooters shot real Colts & real Winchesters.  No Rueger’s.   If couldn’t afford Colt’s they bought Cimarron’s.  All Shooters really worked hard on looking like real cowboys.  All the shooters and non-shooting members always dress in the period garb.

All Shooters really worked hard on looking like real cowboys and their ladies from the 1855-1899.     Lots of clothing designed and made for the shooters both men and women to look as authentically like the 1860-1800s cowboy and their ladies and the possible could.

Every shooter enjoyed the challenges.  The targets were the first challenge with rifle at 59 yards, pistol 15-20 yards most with small targets.  On most of the stages the shooter had a good amount of things to do before and while shooting to add to the challenges and more fun.  Lots of yelling and screaming Yeeee Hawws!  Everyone was having a great time.

1993 – Trailhead was held at the Hill behide the Herman Brune's house.

1994 - Trailhead - Half of Trailhead was held at the Hill and the other half was at Gunsmoke where it is now but with only a few stage at this point.
